RULE 18 OF THE KHA CONSTITUTION:
After discussions at the 2010 AGM the rule was re-worded, see 2011 AGM Agenda, and seeks approval. Proposed by S.Briggs and seconded by J.Hughes. Rule 18 accepted unopposed.

CHAIRMAN:
Monty welcomed those attending and hoped they would enjoy the day. KHA comes in for some criticism from time to time and members were urged to be part of the solution and get involved. A full report will be available on the Schooldays web-site.

HEADMASTER

  • Nick thanked KHA for their continued support both financially and in general. Pupil numbers for September 2011 are at a historic high of 282 with an increase in boarding need.
  • KHS is going through a period of reconstruction both financially and in staffing numbers to enable it to get back into profit.( Loss for 2010 £500k, source Charity Commission.)
  • Exam results are projected to show a marked improvement over 2010.
  • Funding requests from KHA for bursaries will be dealt with by Nick only, and during the past year KHA has been funding 10 pupils at approx. £11.5k per term.

Nick was thanked for his time in what is, a very busy day.

TREASURER

Mike Kent provided accounts for both KHA and KHACTF. Funding for bursaries for the coming school year has been set at £36k in line with our 20% rule. As with all organisations more funds are needed but we remain optimistic.

SCHOOLDAYS

Simon Howlett provided an in-depth report which shows that the site continues to expand and is well visited. It is hoped that Schooldays will become self financing by donations and by advertising members businesses, for a modest fee of course. There is the possibility of members getting more involved by taking on editorial sections of the site. The site has been useful with families searching for clues to their ancestry which then links to the archives with one enquiry leading to a £100 donation, to the building fund.

EVENTS

Ken Wingfield continues to do a good job. Thank you.

It is hoped to have a KHA/KHS cricket match later in the day, watch this space.

  • Forthcoming events. Sunday 25th Sept. Rohilla day chapel service and lunch.
  • Friday 4th Nov. 6th Form dinner and quiz.
  • Saturday 5th Nov. KHA Committee meeting at KHS.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

Mike Kent, Simon Howlett and Ken Wingfield have been involved in careers advice with the sixth form and hope to expand this to include the fifth form.

Stan Clavell raised the issue of the date for the AGM and Re-union being the same as Speech day which he thought made our day less important. Monty replied that part of the reason for having the events on the same day was that it hopefully raised our profile to parents/guardians. John Timmins suggested that a fixed date may be a solution. First Saturday in July, for example.

Iain Helstrip suggested that a need to grow KHA membership and encourage them to attend the AGM/Re-union which in relation to members is poorly attended.

The final 200 Club draw under the stewardship of Simon Briggs will take part at 1600 hours in the KHA marquee. Simon who also looks after the merchandise will continue to do so.

Thanks go to Mike Tadman for organising the marquee, tea / coffee and the ploughmans lunch.

MEETING CLOSED AT 11.40.

Bryan Shaw, Hon.Secretary KHA.
