We are sad to report hearing news that Barbara Hargreaves died in January 2015 just short of her 100th birthday.

Barbara was a member of staff between 1937-1947 and employed as a housekeeper in Clyde, Plymouth and Sheffield.

Sylvia Hughes and family would like to let you know that Bob Hughes died peacefully on 12 January 2015

Bob was for a great many years the President of the KHA (now Kingham Hillians) and dedicated his time selflessly in support of his fellow former pupils. He will be in our thoughts forever.

His funeral arrangements are as follows

On behalf of his family, I regret to have to let you know, that our father, William Henry Parker (Bill), passed away on Thursday 27th November 2014 in Nambour District Hospital, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. His age was 90 years and one month.

He greatly enjoyed keeping up to date with the latest happenings at Kingham Hill and knew much about its history. He regularly communicated, by email or via Skype, with a number of his former fellow students and staff of Kingham Hill.

He made a number of valuable contributions to the KH website over the years, sharing photos and stories and posting documents, some of which reflected the poignancy of very sad moments he experienced while in the navy during World War 2, when far, far from home. Hans Leistina, a dear friend to many on School Days and a well known member of our community passed away at the end of September 2014.

Nick Seward writes, 

I was very sorry to hear of Hans' passing. We remember him for his great love of Kingham Hill and the fascinating stories he told about his life. Kingham Hill School took him in as a young refugee who had escaped from a concentration camp at the beginning of the Second World War. The School became his home and family. Hans retained his links with KHS throughout his life despite living overseas for much of it. He will be greatly missed among the Kingham Hillians community.

The life of Mrs Lilian McLean as told to Sally Bullock during the year 2000

Lilian Dorothy Tapsall (known by most people as Mrs Mac or Mac) was born on 29th August 1911. She is the only child of  John Tapsall (Jack) (born 1872) and Agnes Dora nee Humphries (Dora or Doll) (born 1876) who married in 1901 &  became parents at age 40 and 36, having waited 10 years for a child. At the time they were living at 42 Laleham Rd., Catford, London SE6. Later the family moved house 2 or 3 times within the area.

Kingham Hill School is coming to terms with the death of Logan Renner, a pupil from Year 8. He died as a result of an injury caused by an air rifle at the family home during Sunday morning, 29 January.

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you of the peaceful passing of my father Arthur Ernest Charles Meehan on the 31^st October 2011 at the age of 89.

Arthur was born on Kingham Hill on the 12th April 1922 in the bailiff's cottage. Arthur's father was Frederick Arthur Meehan who worked on the estate and was himself and Old Boy. Kingham Hill archives show that Frederick entered the School on the 30th August 1902 at the age of 9 along with his brother Ernest who was 11. Arthur's sister Esmee was also born on the estate and worked for much of her life in the school refectory.

We were very sorry to hear the sad news of the death of Tim Frohwein (Sheffield 1979-1983) over the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Sheffield followed a similar design to those of the other houses at Kingham Hill. The purpose being a home for 30 boys and provide a full family life. Its not surprising then this concept governed the internal design of the house, and its supervision. Sheffield consisted of three large rooms downstairs. Playroom, dining room, living room and a kitchen; then the smaller rooms, superintendent's office, bathroom, washroom a boot room and the toilets. Upstairs there were three large dormitories for the boys; also bedrooms for staff and a night toilet and laundry room. If was not long before the staff in the homes were referred to as house parents, the term of house superintendent was consigned to our history book.
