The answer was to convert one of the oldest buildings at the school – Durham House, dating from 1886. Housemistress, Carol Heath, and the girls are delighted with their new home.
Headmaster, Nick Seward, welcomed a great crowd of parents, pupils and staff and introduced Chair of Governors, John Richardson, who spoke glowingly of the positive impact made by girls at Kingham Hill during the 20 years since the school became coeducational. This was followed by six girls making statements about the notable achievements of Kingham girls in recent years. A ribbon was then cut by Lauren, representing the new Durham, and Robert, an old boy and previous Head of School, representing the past.
We then asked the question: "How many girls can you get into a mini?”
After much amusement we managed to squeeze seventeen Kingham Hill girls into a lovely shiny mini. The car was bursting at the seams in much the same way the school’s girls’ boarding houses have been for the past year or two.
Champagne and tours of the house rounded-off an enjoyable but significant celebration for Kingham Hill and its growing number of girls.
