KVR 177 smThe 1st XV rugby team got the new rugby season off to a great start with a 7-5 victory over local rivals Sibford. Man of the match, Louis Palmer, scored the try which was converted by Jake Phillips.

Alexander French wrote the following match report:

"Classic nine man rugby. With slight drizzle making handling hard in the first half, we were unable to clear from our own third due to some marvellous miss kicks! Power and strength won the day against a good Sibford team who were always off side at the break down and had a foot up early in every scrum. Dan Edge put in the tackle of the game and with our total dominance in the scrum and line-out it was surprising we did not put another twenty past them. Our try came from outside our 22 with the pack moving the ball an inch at a time and then Louis reaching forward and cheekily touching the posts with the ball - great schoolboy sense of humour. Good to get the first game out of the way and get back to the training deck on Friday."

The second XV team also enjoyed a comfortable victory, winning 22-5, making it a double victory in the first matches of the season.

Supporters braved the autumn showers and enjoyed tea, coffee and bacon rolls whilst watching on the sidelines. It was great to welcome back some of this summer's leavers, Tom Lewis (Sheffield), Oskar Mahony (Havelock) and Katie Nelson (Latimer) who returned to the Hill for the first time as Hillians to cheer on their friends, before they depart for university in the next couple of weeks. They joined a number of parents, grandparents, staff and governors who turned out to cheer on the teams.
