Norwich House go to RAF Halton

Climbing 1tmbAt the start of term at a boarding school it is essential to get the boys in the boarding house to gel. It often takes half a term before they are fully settled into a proper ‘team’. In the past we have had days out, trips, house singing competitions and house rugby.

However, in just one day at RAF Halton the instructors and the experiences of climbing gelled the boys of Norwich House into an elite band of brothers. It was amazing to see them overcome fears, adrenalin rushes, communication issues and sense of direction – and that was just the minibus journey!

On a serious note, the experience and high quality of the instructors enabled all present, regardless of ability or nationality, to engage in what was happening at a level that was safe for them. The instructors pushed each person, including some of the staff, to go the extra step and to go beyond their comfort zone. It was at these times that the true camaraderie and team building was at its most effective.

I am very proud of what my boys managed to achieve on the day and can honestly say that, because of it, the start to the school year was one of the best we have had. Similarly the team spirit and friendships have continued to go from strength to strength. As such it has turned out to be a highly successful year in our academic pursuits, sports fixtures, inter-house competitions and many more areas, but most importantly it is in the area of friendship and family that we have been at our best. Many of our boys have parents serving in the armed forces and, in fact, one of them grew up at RAF Halton. As such we felt it was important to build strong links with local bases. Taking the sons of those serving our country along to engage in such activities was wonderful.

We would like to thank all of the personnel at RAF Halton for their time and dedication and for the service they give to our country and our community and we very much look forward to continuing to build on our relationship with them.
