He liked Ghana and the people he met there and when he was offered an opportunity to teach in a school out there, he took it and remained in the country until 1962. He married Annette in 1955. The couple returned to England and moved to Kingham Hill School in January 1962. Mr Chapman spent two terms as Assistant Housemaster of Sheffield House and in the Autumn of 1962 was appointed Housemaster of Clyde. He also taught languages, was in charge of the CCF and coached sport.

In 1977, Mr Chapman became Second Master (Deputy Head) and he and Mrs Chapman moved to a cottage in Churchill. In 1986, following the school's centenary celebrations, which he was instrumental in organising, Mr Chapman retired from school and spent the rest of his life in Churchill. However, he maintained close links with the school and was Secretary of the Kingham Hill Association until 1991. He died on 22 May 1991 and a memorial service was held at the reunion that summer on 29 June 1991.
