Bruce Arnold is a writer and journalist based in Dublin. He is Chief Critic of the Irish Independent and a regular political commentator for the paper. He is the author of 15 books, including biographical studies of Charles Haughey and Margaret Thatcher, and studies on Irish cultural matters, including a Concise History of Irish Art and works on Jack Yeats and Sir William Orpen. He was born in London and educated at Kingham Hill School and then at Trinity College Dublin. He has a postgraduate degree of Doctor of Letters from the National University of Ireland and is an Honorary Fellow of Trinity College. Bruce Arnold has also written three plays for children and a libretto for an opera about the life of Jonathan Swift. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. In 2003 he was made OBE "for services to journalism and to British-Irish relations".
