Statement prior to the Annual General Meeting

KHA Reunion and AGM – 18th May 2013 at Kingham Hill School from 1pm

The KHA (formerly the Kingham Hill Old Boys Association, founded by the Founder's brother), is almost as old as the School itself. Historically we have been involved in organising events for ex-pupils and receiving and managing money donated by you, your families and friends of The Hill. Since 1986 donations have been managed by a legal charitable structure known as the Centenary Trust Fund (CTF) with the trustees appointed by the KHA Committee.

Last year the headmaster Nick Seward made the KHA Committee aware of the school's intention to begin managing all alumni communications, events and fundraising. This was described as something which should be within the remit of the school and that a new development officer would be appointed. Generally, this is becoming increasingly common across independent schools and colleges, and it does make sense in as much as more recent leavers have higher expectations of their alumni organisations, and increasingly these expectations are beyond that which can reasonably be met by a handful of volunteers in their spare time.

Speech Day is Kingham Hill's big day. It's the last day of term; it is prizegiving & speeches, with The Hill at its best.

Parents & friends can see various work displayed, from the art room to flying model aeroplanes. For the second year, KHA (past pupils, staff, parents & friends) were invited to hold their annual summer reunion then.

Climbing 1tmbAt the start of term at a boarding school it is essential to get the boys in the boarding house to gel. It often takes half a term before they are fully settled into a proper ‘team’. In the past we have had days out, trips, house singing competitions and house rugby.

Gentlemen & Friends:

We were informed this morning by one of ours (Matt Huber) who had just picked up on an obituary notice in today's Telegraph: (Link at the end of this message) a very dear friend of ours has recently passed on:

Timothy Kenneth Whitfield Hart (Head of School , Head of House Sheffield). For details of his memorial service please click 'read more'

We received the sad news from Kathkeen Farrant of the passing of Reginald James Farrant this November.

Reginald James Farrant was at Kingham Hill school between 1927 and 1935.

Some of you may have known Mr David Hanton personally many more will have benefited from the decisions he made whilst Chairman of the Kingham Hill School Governors in the late 70s through to the early 90's.

Michael ChardMy time there was probably circa 1950, in Clyde House. My memories are largely of that home from home and its Housemaster ( HM for short ) ; Mr Bowman.
