They arrived at midday for lunch and were then given a tour of our school. The Kingham Hill rugby coaches alongside their Dutch counterparts then held a variety of rugby training sessions aimed at integrating the two sides. After much fun and games the two sides travelled to Chipping Norton Rugby Club to play matches at U15 and U17 age group. Kingham Hill School has very strong links with Chipping Norton Rugby Club with many staff members playing for the senior sides and many more pupils playing for the junior teams.
An U15 side compromised of mainly Kingham Hill players beat the Rotterdam touring side convincingly with a great deal of power and flair. The U17 match was contested by CNRFC’s U16 side that have been unbeaten this season and also won the County Cup. Chippy were too strong for the visitors so many of the Kingham boys went and played for the Dutchmen and helped level the the game by scoring two tries, although the numerous scores already converted meant that Chippy were strong winners by the time the final whistle blew. On the pitch good friendships were made and what the Rotterdam players lacked in skill they certainly made up for in enthusiasm and the after match celebrations went on until late evening with ties, banners, shields and tops being swapped in friendship. We can safely say that strong links have been made, friendships have been forged and a great day in the sun was had by all!
